Preparation and patience: The keys to the tile installation process

We love tile. It does not matter whether the material is ceramic, porcelain, stone, glass, or metal; a tile job that is professionally installed adds a beautiful touch to a room. It might be a flooring project, a countertop, and backsplash, or redoing your bathroom with tile floors and tile shower walls; we do it all. We take great pride in every project to ensure that your response is to say, "wow!" Our goal is not just to meet your expectations; it is to exceed them. Let us put our 30 years of experience to work for you.

Preparation is the key

When properly installed, tile is a permanent floor that will last through your lifetime and others who will live in your home after you. The key is in the floor preparation. You don't just start installing tile on the floor.

Vibrations in your home are one of the enemies of a tile installation. Depending on your subfloor, we might add a layer of cement-board or build up a mortar bed. This helps level the floor, and the concrete absorbs the vibrations in your home.

Moisture is another enemy when installing a permanent floor. It is especially important when it comes to bathrooms, where moisture is regularly present. Porcelain and ceramic are water-resistant materials, but to ensure you have a waterproof floor or wall, we will build up the material with a backer-board that is fully waterproof. Fortunately, there are many products available that do this, and we will walk you through the strengths and advantages of each.

Patience in installing tile floors

As the old saying goes: "Slow and steady wins the race." While our installers do not dilly-dally, they also will not rush the job. Tiles must be carefully placed to ensure that grout-lines are straight across the room (or consistently match the desired pattern). Cuts must be perfect the first time, and once installed and the glue is set, they are carefully grouted. Any residue from the grouting process is carefully wiped off the tile's face, preventing hazing from forming.
